• What

– To elucidate the effect of aging on mineral wools with different types of binders and coupling agents, using surface sensitive techniques with focus on single fibre scale

  • Why

– Identifying the mechanism of degradation of the binder/coupling agent and the adhesion between the binder and the fibers during ageing is needed to be able to make a better product
– Developing ways of preventing/decreasing the ageing is crucial

  • How

– Nanoscale analyses on single fibers and model systems with binder and coupling agents will give the knowledge needed to understand the ageing mechanism
– Based on these results the project will try to modify the existing binders and coupling agents
– Alternative binders and coupling agents will be analysed by nanoscale techniques and by use of standard ROCKWOOL test methods
